So I'm too cheap to buy anything aftermarket to get an oversize tank/quick fill for my LTR so I made my own!

I can't take all the credit.  I saw someone else do something similar but I just modified a few things.

But yes, I WILL find a way to save money!

That's awesome Nick, great job.  I think I need to buy some of those inserts for my current cans.

A good idea for transferring fuel quickly.  I should mention (I forgot to mention this last night when we talked) I'm pretty sure the larger point of the "dry-break" tanks is to keep fuel from over-flowing or otherwise spilling during stops and causing a fire.  As long as you keep an eye on that, you should be good!

Exactly why I went with such a small fuel can.  I only plan to put a gallon or a hair more in it to make sure I have no spill accidents.  I also wanted more dead air volume inside the can compared to a 1 gallon can as well as room to expand if needed (more fuel as I get faster or multiple racers refeuling off the same jug).

Yep.  That makes sense.

For what it's worth, even with my IMS tank, I think I'm going to start stopping and grabbing a gallon as well next year.  Fuel mileage is becoming a concern.  I'm excited that I'm going quick enough for that to finally be the case. [biggrin]

A little update to this.

Does the can work?  Yes!  Does it work as intended?  Not quite.

The issue is with the tank neck on my LTR.  It has a sharp lip that catches the end of the large radiator hose.  If you can't shove the hose far enough in the tank, there is so much air trying to escape so quickly that it brings quite a bit of fuel with it.  Because of this, I scrapped the concept.

What I did do is purchase an EZ-Pour Hi-Flo spout.  It doesn't flow as much, but is made for the application, looks a ton better, and I can use it on other fuel tanks (the radiator hose didn't fit in the Outlaw neck).  EZ-Pour also makes a "normal" spout for your other cans to get rid of the emissions crap spouts that take three days to empty a 5 gallon can.  I've got one of those as well and they work very nicely.
