Ahhh yeshhh it was backwards...

Im going to a parts store tomorrow...
They carry the hmf exgausts... Is it worth it for a full exhaust with header Or just the slipon?

the stock header makes as much or more horsepower than most aftermarket headers out there. your money is better spent on just a slip on.

Oring ( 2 of them just incase!)
And a 15t sproket.

Apparently all hmf slipons are currently backordered so that was a no-go

Is there any good filter kits out tere? I need a new filter so while im at it i minus well put a cone style on.. Links/part numbers would be sweeet!

O.k here you go. here are the part #'s for the best intake set-up. I have the places to buy for the best price i could find.


1. UNI re-useable 2.5" opening, 4" around, 6" long air filter. part#UP-62455t

2. Outerwears pre-filter for above UNI filter part # 20-1049-01 
 
 You can get both of these in a set for $35 shipped from Quad Command on e-bay.

3. 6" long,   2 1/2" round, tube or pipe. I bought a piece of alum. tube off ebay from Majesty Auto parts in China for $15 shipped. I got one with a 45 deg. bend in middle, i cut it in half and trimmed off most of bend and used for the carb side, to give a little more clearance for the seat.

4. (1) silicone coupler,   2 3/8", it is important to get the right one here, this connects it to carb. I bought several of these before I got the right one, you need one that will stretch a bit to make it over the 2 1/2" tube. Most wont stretch, but a place called best. racing-building on ebay, has the best one for $5 shipped,  part#17991-60

5. (2) hose clamps for 2 1/2" coupler, the UNI comes with one.

6. a UNI filter cleaning/oiling kit. Have to find this on your own!

 Thats about $60 in materials not including filter service kit. I did alot of trial and error on this particular item and ended up with alot of stuff I couldnt use.   If you go by my list EXACTLY, you will end up with a quality set-up, but I cant gaurantee your results unless you buy the correct coupler and other parts.   I have added a few pics also, for reference. Good Luck!
P.S  These pics are with a 2 3/4" alum. tube, thats why the extra coupler. It now has 2 1/2" tube, 1 coupler, 3 clamps, filter. Im also working on a mold so I can manufacture the heat shield and air box. The shields will be real carbon fiber and will be avaliable for Mikuni and Keihin carbs ( Keihin shown), it will be a one piece carbon fiber upper heatshield and the airbox will be a carbon fiber pan with perforated alumiinum sides and built in crankcase filter (as shown). The Mikuni mold is finished, just waiting for carbon fiber.

I can get the couplers from work pretty easily
I see you have a filter on the...crankcase vent? Should i do that also? As i have no filter on mine ( other then the stock filter housing/filter

There also seems to be alottt of oil build up in the bottom of the filter box. Is that normal, or excessive blowby issue?

Yes, you will need to add a crankcase filter. I pick them up for under $5. Try to get one for a 5/8" hose, that way you wont have to mess with adapters. Sounds like you may have a blow-by problem. I have never had any oil in my airboxes. Have you done a compression test on it?Also make sure your oil level is BETWEEN the fill lines on dipstick. After youve done a compression test and you want to find out where your compression is leaking to, just add a teaspoon of good oil into cylinder and re-check the compression, if it makes the compression go up, its most likely rings. If it does not raise compression, then most likely its your valve seals. In the mean time put a 5/8" pcv in the hose before the new c.case filter, may help keep your c.c filter from getting soaked in oil.

Last owner had the oil at the bottom of the filler neck deal so wayy over full
Havent been able to run it since the oil change lol

Yeah if the oil level is even a little over full you can end up with oil in the airbox. I have also seen it happen from standing on the grab bar for too long.

so.. built a intake setup...

3" cone filter with a 2.5" tube to carb.

 

off idle, WAY better  but midrange bogs and wont come up in rpm  just bogs and thats all

Did you adjust the needle? If not drop the clip on the needle to the 4th position from the top or blunt end of the needle.

main jet and no clue. there are some guys out there drilling jets i would do a google search.

well i normally would say get a 170 and a 175 and try them both with drilling you only get one shot once you go to big it is done so yes i would try a 175. i have heard mixed results in the past with guys trying to drill jets. i would not do it with my machines. any dealer should have the large round mikuni jets in the 170 to 175 range for a few bucks each. jets r us .com will ship them in a few days.

Drilled the jet out, got a little bit better but not much.
Took the intake off ( just the carb open for a quick rip) And sweet jesus.. Way better.

So i put the stock intake on and she still falls on her face mid rpm.
Played with clip position on needdle ( now ots all the way on the top clip position) And its not any better.

Where should i go/do now?
It runs great with no intake on the carb

If i had to guess around 12"/14" goes from carb to stock box with 2.5" tube and a 3" filter

Ok my guess is too long of a tube and too small of a filter. The CV carb is kinda touchy when it comes to intake length size ect. I would shorten up that tube as much as possible even try the filter right off the carb. I had a 13 inch civic intake on a predator and I could never get it jetted right until I shortened up the tube to about 6 inches. Any longer kinda sucked. Right on the carb was great up top and kinda fell short off idle 6 to 8 inches was just right. If you use a longer tube like the stock air box snorkel in needs to go from real big with a huge filter down to the carb size.

Ok ill try to shorten it up some with a 170ish jet and go from there hopefully the filter fits with a shorter tube

Picked up another smaller filter that fits right onto the carb...
Muchh better!

Now i just have a small bog every now and then. Going to try a small piece of pipe on the intake to lengthen it and see where that puts it
"175" jet And 3rd clip position down.
Also going to try the 4th clip position.

Does anyone know what size the screws for the bowl is? Mine are "vise grip" size And its getting annoying whenever i have to get in there lol

Updates!
Filter got a 3" section of tube on it, helped alot.
However i decided to see what happens when i pull the choke out and try riding it, Theres no differance, if anything the low end is slightly better? What would be a fix to that?

Also installed HID lights, hust went out for a rip with them and about 15min in, i lost all power. Checked all batt conections and they were tight, was calling for a tow home, and she got power. Could this be the circuit breaker getting overloaded?

well i would say either your needle and main are perfect or just a hair rich and your bottom end is a tad lean. if you are out to 3 turns out on the a/f screw you could try a 47 or 50 pilot jet but i bet you are close.

So thats what i want then? I thouht no matter what when full choked its run like a bag of shit? Id much rather be rich then lean thats forsure.
Ill have to order a proper 175 jet along with a 165/160/180/185 and a couple piolot jets

Good to know im getting somewhere!! Shes a whole new quad compared to stock

So i believe i found the whine/grind sound. Its the roller on the bottom side of the chain. I know this because i put a 15T sproket on A d it got worse. I can acctually watch it spin when i let off the throttle. Any fixes for this?
Also, does anyone have a pic of the piolot jet? The guybim ordering threw wants to make sure i order the right onw
