we just did a rebuild ( brand new cylinder, piston, and rings) on a honda trx45er 2007 with a trashed piston. (it had about 20 lbs of compresion before) put er back together, and now we have 0 compression.

I could hear the loss happening after we would stop turning it over, you could hear a bubbling sound like pressure releasing through oil.

My guess is soemthing didnt seat right with the piston rings due to the fact that when you take the oil filter out the sound gets significantly louder.


any other guesses?

how did the valves and valve seats look? maybe valve seals?

valves looked good. The sound wasnt coming from the valves. I could hear it through the timing chain area

My other guesses are.

B. head gasket didnt seal right.

C. Screw honda.

either head gasket or a stuck ring maybe?

yes screw honda. although i rode them my whole life and never had a single honda ever leave me stranded or even break down for that matter, but screw them anyway!

Assuming it never fired?  Your timing must be off.

that is a good possibility. if the valves are staying open when it should be making compression, that would do it.

I had the valve cover off. valves are closing. you can hear the leak after the valves close and its not coming from them.

did you drill a sight hole in the side of the cylinder to see what is wrong? ...if so, that was stupid and it is your problem.

If you can hear air leaking, you must have more than zero compression.  Fire that fucker up and seat those rings!

Shoulda got an R. F*ck that electronic BS! I couldn't kill my R but my buddy's ER had a handful of problems. Have you tried firing it yet? If not, re-check timing and valve clearance like fossil said and try it. Hard to believe a ring would be causing that much leakage...? The motor seems to turn over 'normally'? Decomp set right?

Did you stagger the ring gaps, so they don't leak down like they will if they are all lined up?
