I've been thinking about an 8/06 for woods riding? Would it be a good choice over stock or no? 450 with 14T front and 20's, could always drop down to 13T. Would pair with higher comp piston and bored carb on top of my intake and exhaust. Just love the low end...

so where does the stock outlaw cam fall on that list. what are the oem cam specs? I just want to know because im rebuilding my outlaw right now . Im adding and 12:5:1 piston and aready have a hmf slipon. Im going back to glamis in october and I was thinking of adding a set of cams to the build but I just do not know which cams would be best for glamis dune riding... I was just going to buy the hotcams, but what do you guys think? Im also thinking about boring the carb. But last year at glamis fuel mileage was a problem. Mostly due to the fact that I need to keep the engine reved up most of the time. i felt that the outlaw did well out there , but she needed a small kick in the ass on the power end, to climb chain wall , alittle better. i was really pushing the engine on that climb.

I would ask Kevin distraction628 he has ran a ton of rfs setups and has a lot of good info I can only compare the hot cams and the stock cam, and they were in 2 different engines. The Hotcam was good for making more power well after 6500 rpms where I felt the stock one starts to drop off in power towards the rev limit.

also the bored carb on the outlaw makes a huge difference. i went from the 39mm to a 41.6mm and it pulled so much harder. i did not see a huge difference in fuel consumption but i put on an ims tank almost as soon as i got the outlaw. the dunes are just a constant fuel sucker. i was always on the ragged edge of making it back to camp. you can burn through 5 gallons sand dragging hills in no time.

maybe a 44mm lectron would be the extra kick in the pants you need.

Hum that sound like what i might want for this build but then again its hard to tell how much lowend Ill need for the dune climbing.... I Like the lowend of the oem cams but i fell like some the engines power might be off the curve with a higher compression cam. what i mean is if i add a 12;5;1 piston and a bored carb, will the oem cam still pull, or will i just blow though the power band and cause me the shift up and down more offen to stay on top. Id really like to know the best cam set up with a standard bore 525 for the dunes. Also keep in mind that on sand highway(glamis) i held my outlaw wide open for 20+ miles. I could always use more topend but do not want to lose any climbing power.

For the dunes I would def do a cam. Just not sure about woods riding. If it would be real beneficial that is...

i still thought the stock cam pulled amazing with the bored carb. but that is all i have to compare it to. i think the rfs makes so much low end torque i do not see it being a loss. like you say it revs out so fast i think a bigger cam would be what you could use. the hot cam being in the neighborhood of the 8/06 8/07 maybe the 8/07 being a bit more top end. like i say my personal comparison is very limited.

i think ill buy the hotcam. ill just bring the oem cam the chain press and some goo(yamahbond) with me to glamis. Ill switch them out if i do not like it, But then again , if I buy them tonight ill have time to test them here, in nj. even tho we have no dunes here , ill get the idea if it will work. But i have to buy asap if i want to get the test time.

yeah last year , the outlaw did great but the runs from pad 4 to buttercup, i was wishing i had the predator for the topend speed and better high speed handling. the pred is a way better cruzing atv. better suited for high speeds, if you ask me. not better on gas mileage tho. although my outlaw eats gas like a mother in glamis. which is also a concern for the outlaw cam i choose to run..it is also why i have been thinking that maybe boring the carb might not be the best idea, but then agian i have afew 39mm outlaw fcr carbs. i could carry a oem set up with me. BUT once in glamis , I do not wish to work on my atvs at all unless in have to, Id rather ride most of the time.   Like i said the outlaw did really well last year, the only issues i had was fuel mileage, the crank vent hose broke afew times, she could have used more topend, she needed a bit more overall power, i had a wire short out on the last day and the outlaw got really hot.( i even had the thermostat bypass and oil cooler setup)
So the outlaw needs more power and needs to run cooler. the other issues are easy. i got a IMs fuel tank coming, the wires have been better wrapped and the vent line has been replaced. who knows what the 600 pred will need but at least i know what it takes to take on those dunes. i guess im asking you guys for what you think i should do for a cam and improvements. sorry if ive been off subject. but maybe my issues will be resolved by the help of you guys. just forget about the pred, shes a whole other animal., this is all about the outlaw cam i should run.

since i know how the hotcam runs (which is great) that is the one i recommend. plus it sounds like you need it in a hurry. i think the hot cam will be easy to get.

as far as running cooler maybe a larger radiator, or a dual fan setup? but with all the lights and gadgets another fan may not be an option. possibly just water with water wetter or engine ice if you are not already running it.

i run and ran engine ice,, do like the idea of the dual fans, but like you said, im pushing the limits on the electric. however the led lights and the hids i have aren't much more then the oem light setup. the hids are the same wattage and the leds are very lows on watts, besides the leds and lights aren't going to be on at the hottest point of the day and at night i most likely will not need two fans running,(its alot cooler at night)  I did max out the lighting last year when i tried to run all the lights and my helmet tailtech HIds off the atv power. i couldn't keep all lights lit. i had to run the helmet lights off a trail tech battery. i pushed it to far i guess .

there you go maybe a second fan with a switch to turn it off at night and then when the lights are off during the day switch them both on. here is what made me think of it these guys have an oversized radiator and dual fans for sale. something like this may work out.

Matt I would buy that radiator if I were you. Run one off the temp sensor if possible and the second switched like Leo said. During the day have the second run full time, that's what I did with my Honda. Also any of the cams more aggressive than 8/06 should work well for you I think. I'm thinking 8/06 just cuz bottom end is important to me and I have a 450 not 525

stock cam is the 55/21

806 works good in a stock engine, small low end loss, nice mid to top gain, still flattens off though

833 revs out alot nicer, and same dollars as the 8/06

most will tell you it's a better cam than the HC, HC kills low end bad and turns the engine into all rev or flat on it's face…..   was made for big bore kitted two wheelers, killed the low end so easy to ride without allot of wheel spin, in a quad it plain sucks they need the torque push.  Go for the 833 IMO rather than the HC can be picked up got $150 - $160

833 / bore carb to 41.5 / unshroud the valves and a decent clean up in the valve seats = allot more power  if you can afford it, add a decent piston as well 12.5:1

Kiwi , said it ... 8/33, it even does ok on stock motor, just drop a tooth up front, I know thats not always the best way, but it keeps the rpm's up so your in the power sooner.  I have even ran the 8/07 on a stock motor, was a little much but once I was used to it, worked fine on the dunes.   Kiwi are you sure there stopping the 8/07 as my dealer says different.. They said it's there hottest selling cam as he can't keep them in stock he sells so many.

Thanks for all the info guys, I agree the 8/33 is prob the best for a stockish duner. What about woods riding tho, prob not your forte, but in your opinion would stock or 8/06 be better? I don't scream or rev my bike out in the woods.

I just put the 8/33 with a 13:1 piston in mine. Bottom end feels the same as stock, with more power in the mid and top. My guess is that an 8/06 with a piston, will have more power everywhere than stock. Just a guess though.

probably the 806.   833 need a hi comp piston to hold the low end.

Get your carb bored to 41, all gain no down side

Ok Engine gurus.... where do some of the aftermarket camshafts fall into this list as far as "size" (duration + lift) compared to say the factory "807" cam?

Specifically, "Stage 5" by Thumper, Webcam 820, and Webcam 820/821, and what is everyone's experiences with them?
