Just found a JE 560 big bore kit on ebay for 289.00 I think, also found another that comes with a cylinder already, it is 679.00 bucks. Is it worth paying that much for for the cylinder or would it be cheaper to have the stock cylinder bored?

you would have to have the stock cylinder bored and have the sleeve pressed into it. most shops will do this for $100 to $200 but they must be capable of doing a wet sleeve properly. if you send your stock cylinder to hpd they will send you an entire 558 kit ready to bolt on with piston rings and gaskets for right at $500 best deal unless you buy the $289 kit and know someone you really trust to do the sleeve. hpd has done hundreds and stands behind their work 100%.

$679 is a great deal if you want to keep your stock cylinder in case your ever want to go back, or just want a spare.

thats not bad on the price, however is it a aluminum cylinder or steal. I just wonder because Id rather the aluminum coated cylinder then a plain steal cylinder.  I will try to find out who did my 560 cylinder,, I think it was LA sleave.  I remember the price was right around that price for the cylinder and piston kit. the aluminum cylinder heats up and cools way better then the steal cylinder.

I'm not sure if its steel or aluminum, can't really tell from the picture, and it doesn't tell in the details.

Dosnt this je kit on ebay come with the piston? Thats what it say.

HPD gave me $50 discount for being a PPR member on my BB558 kit, go with the Polaris experts at HPD!! Never heard a bad thing about them, and I, for one LOVE mine so much i had a decal made!! "POWERMAXX" rules!! Nuff said.

true, and truth is I am about to drop my 600 predator down to a HPD 558.

Do y'all know how long it would take HDP to get it back to me?
My piston is scratched on the sides and started to mar the side of the cylinder.
I figured I'd pay that to get a stock setup. Might as well go Big Bore

Man, that sucks. What would you guys recommend I do?
If i go Big Bore, Is there anything extra I'd have to do with it? 
I really don't want to blow the engine

a well built big bore does not make it less reliable. i would still contact daryl if you can if he cannot help you find a shop that can set the sleeve in the cylinder and fit your piston to it and then assemble away.

if you can't get your hands on a hpd big bore a je 560 is also a great kit.

Alright thanks man, I may get the kit w/o the cylinder and have my shop do the bore job. If not I'll just buy the cylinder separately.
Unless it would be better to just get it all together..

So i have the chance of possibly buying my friends 2003 predator 500 for about $400. If i go this route and purchase a JE 560 bore kit off ebay, will there be any other modifications i would need to do to the quad? Jetting i assume.

big bore is not really a big change in jetting if at all. it uses about the same fuel air mixture just a bit more of it each revolution. no modifications have to be done with the big bore. it is basically the same as installing and bolting on a stock cylinder and piston.

I have one more question. If a 2003 predator hasn't had any tranny problems, is there a good chance it won't? I can't remember where i read that if 2003 predator's hadn't had tranny problems after many hours on it, that there's a good chance it won't... any truth to this?

i think there is some truth to that. either you got a good one or a bad one but is there a magic number of hours no. it could be babied the first 200 hours then rode hard for one hour and go boom.

i think they mostly had issues with a weak 3rd gear. i never had a problem with 5 predator transmissions 2 of them being 2003 the other 3 being 2005.

most guys that rail ride and do not abuse them never had an issue. guys that were really working them hard racing and speed shifting were having more issues and sooner.
