THE PUMP ISNT STRONG ENOUGH TO "SHOOT" OUT OF THERE. GET RID OF THE PUMP, ITS A PAPERWEIGHT. IT ACTUALLY CAUSED PROBLEMS FOR ME. WAS IT RUNNING AND SHUT DOWN? SOUNDS LIKE YOU HOOKED UP YOUR BEER TO THE PUMP AND CONNECTED IT TO YOUR MOUTH LOL!

Sounds like a fuel problem. Lets test the theory.

When it wont re-start, shoot a blast of starting fluid into the carb. If it immediately starts and then dies, that indicates a fuel issue. Try restarting without the starting fluid. If it wont start, try with starting fluid again. If it only runs on starting fluid, that indicates an unknown problem that is causing a lean fuel mixture. Possible causes:

   Out of fuel
   Idle set too low
   Clogged petcock filter
   Clogged fuel filter
   Plugged fuel line
   Stuck fuel inlet valve
   Float problem
   Clogged carburetor fuel passages
   Bad fuel pump
   Clogged tank breather
   Fuel valve in "off position"
   Low fuel level
   Out of adjustment carburetor

Im sure there are more possible causes. I would make sure its a fuel problem before you proceed though. If its not a fuel issue, and you accidentally cause a fuel problem by fiddling with it, then fixing the actual problem wont make it run. I have seen people chase problems around a motor before, always one step behind the actual issue and cant ever get it running.

oh yeah float stuck gas left on and a full crank case i have seen that a few dozen times. runs right past the rings and ring end gap. it can drain a full gas tank in a few hours easily.

Either your float is stuck or out of adjustment or you needle valve that fills the bowl is stuck or dirty or it just needs replaced.

I don't think that fuel pump shuts down the fuel supply it just has a diaphragm that helps the flow along I think anyway.

It should unless the petcock has a slow drip also.

I could be wrong here, but wouldn't cleaning or replacing the float needle valve fix this problem ?  I think tractor supply and places like that carry inline shut off fuel valves (for lawn mowers)  that would work until the new float needle valve arrived.
