Hey all, so I'm guessing I need to replace the axle retaining clip on my left side (sitting on machine) axle. The clip that holds the inner cv inside the housing. Looking at this parts diagram, is #18, which shows up as part #7710547 "Ring-Retaining (2.475)" the clip I'm looking for?

Yes, #18 should be the retaining ring for the inner CV joints.

And from my experience, the OEM clip will only work correctly with the OEM boot.

New boots should come with new snap rings.  But it sounds like he was looking for the ring inside the grooved section of the hub, where the balls ride, that actually keeps the CV assemblies from sliding out.  Maybe 09ford can clarify...

ah, so 18 is the boot ring?

yeah I'm looking for the clip inside the housing that holds the CV joint in. at least i'm assuming that's what I need. Haven't had time to take it apart yet but the axle is sitting low and I can't see why else it would be doing that other than the clip not doing it's job.

#18 should be the CV joint retaining ring.  The boot rings don't have a separate part number because they are part of the boot kit.

So apparently I have some other issue that's making the axle sit lower on the left side (when sitting on it) I took the boot off yesterday to see if the axle snap ring had actually broken or not and it was fine. so I tossed the boot back on and I guess I'll just keep riding it haha Odd as it sits quite a bit lower than the right side axle but i honestly can't see any difference other than that
