Rimfire ammo that is !!

I have a project I dug out of mothballs that involved an
ancient Remington Nylon 66 Auto loader. In the parts box,
I had stashed some Remington .22lr High Speeds, and a
few boxes of Remington High Velocities. They still have
their sales sticker on them from K-Mart. The High Speeds
are marked $1.49 and the High Velocities are marked $1.69.
These are the small 50 rd boxes......I must have pulled a
"Rip Van Winkle" !! I'm seeing $12 to $15 dollars on this
stuff now, and that is, if you can find it. Shelves are still
empty fellas (WTF)

Well anyway.....The Nylon 66 now has a new owner, And for
what I received has been spent on some new parts. I should
have put the money towards that 570 Sport build but, you
know how it is.....LOL

I just so happen to have a newer Remington 597ss 22lr Auto
in the vault, I salted away. It is now going to be the donor
replacement for the Nylon 66.....As soon as the parts arrive
I'll post a pic or 2 of what's going on.....In the mean time....
I'll be looking for some high velocity ammo in the 1250fps range,
and there is none in my area.

Isn't normal 22LR 1280fps?

Edit:  I guess that is the hallow points I have.  The CCI round nose is 1080.

It still amazes me how hard 22LR is to find.

Can get it from time to time around here. The cheaper, solid lead bullets (with no coating) are running around $40-$60 for a 500 rnd. brick. The better stuff is running $12-$16 for a box of 50.

Anyone that needs some and is going to make it to Killpecker this year, i'll see what I can do about stocking up. Just let me know. The more expensive stuff is a little easier to come by typically.

The guy that bought my Nylon 66 says he has a huge stash
of Fiochi 980fps longs. I had the extra spring for the gun to
shoot and eject shorts, and that was one of the things he
was after. When I told him I had the extra soft spring and
screw, he threw another $50 at me.....My 597 does not
like weak loads. Anything under 1200fps gives me one too
many failures to feed. Some of it is due to the crap magazines,
so I'm hoping the new ones coming in will help, or not ??

Hey George !! Your in  prime gun owners country now !!

Yup, Arizona and New Mexico, some of the greatest hunting and shooting available. Monster Bull Elk, huge Mule Deer, Big Horn Sheep and a lot more. Those are about the only things that cut into my riding time. Would be really hard to move away from where I live.

Well fellas, finish up the trigger work and have it at
a crisp 5 lbs with just a tad of take up. Happy with
it. Last of the parts needed came in this morning and
it was just a matter of wrenching.

Other then getting it zeroed in, it's cocked, locked
and ready to rock.....Came in at the same weight and
length as a typical M4 with optics. This thing would be
sweet as a suppressed version......Hmmmmnnnnnn !!

Karl, That would'nt be the only toy I'd bring.....LOL

Yeah the ol' 570 build is going to suffer, but I would
not have had it done by July anyways, so I shifted
some of the build funds towards this project.

Still in semi commitment mode about the PPR event.
Being retired has it's advantages, but still have to
get thru this last big tax season with the IRS, then
the property taxes after that. Mid May will be my
soonest commitment date.

Getting back some disturbing info, and real bleary eyed.
Of the 22 major ammo sites, all have no decent ammo.
On the Remington 22lr issue, I was seeing "out of stock"
"out of stock with no back order", and I'm also seeing,
"out of stock and no longer available" !!  It's the "no
longer available part that bugs me.

I'm supprised a class action suit has not been raised for
the sale of 22 long rifle fire arms when there is no ammo
for their use ?? Sort of like going to a car dealer to buy
a new ride, and there is no gasoline available !! Arms
manufacturers like Ruger, sell probably more rimfire arms
then anyone else, and they do not have ammo in their
supply line like Remington or Winchester.

On the other side of the coin....5.56 ammo can be found
every where, and in any quantity you want.

Just rambling I guess !!

What a Saturday morning !!! Ammunition Depot came thru
via Fedex and dropped off 500 rounds of CCI plated, high
velocity .22lrs and another 420 count ammo can of 5.56
NATO 62gr. green tips. An hour later. my postman dropped
off my barrel can, and an M60 machine gun carry handle
that just happens to fit my needs.....Did my final bolt up,
and now a happy camper.....LOL  Rifle came in at 9 lbs
with a loaded 25 round clip in the well.

For reasons not to have the ATF come to my door and
severally scrutinize my colon, I left out the expansion
chamber, baffles, and packing.

Next project, and just waiting on the UPS truck.

One Rock Rivers, heavy barreled, delta, mid length.

Going to dress this out as a CQC operator rifle.

Delivered and paper work done, and I'll say, I've owned
Colt and Armalite, and this Rock River is every bit the
gun and if not better. Initial look and take down gives
me the impression that this piece was built by a watch
maker. Very precise, top of the line parts. Going to work
with the trigger a bit. Not real used to a 2 stage match
trigger......I'll order all the dress up goodies and optics
in a few weeks then burn the barrel in, mop it out, and
see it it shoots as good as it looks.

Leo.....Move my status up to 90%  LOL

Going to have to make a hike down to the local
railroad tracks and locate a few rail tie plates.
Those things make some great long range gongs
when hung on a chain.

Got a little freebie in the mail. A 5.56 dummy round
that is actually a laser. I guess you chamber it like
a normal round and the laser provides a 1/2 dot at 100
yards thru the bore. Just adjust your optics to it and
should be close to dead on. This thing is slick especially
if your swapping optics often, and need a quick silent
check.

Parts for the new build are rolling in. Ran into a snag
with some optics I plan on using. Riser blocks needed
are out of stock. The Bushnell version of the ACOG
optics sit lower then the mil spec Trijicons. Always
something.....eh' !!

Yup, but that's what keeps it interesting, huh Fuj? With .22 ammo getting a little more available, I'm gonna have to get me an AR style .22 of some kind. I'll have the check yours out pretty close at Killpecker Fuj. My big problem is, I'm always wanting to do something else to the Vette. Something is telling me I have some kind of issue.....like HP Addiction or something like that. LOL!!!

Get some Paddle Brats for the Vette and bring it to
the dunes.

One of our trips out to St Anthony had us run into
a jeep club. Big paddle tires and big horse power.
Among them was a 63 Vette with a big block. It had
the split rear window in the back so I figured it was
a 63. Closer look back at the parking lot told a
different story. It was a true but stretched jeep
chassie, 460 Ford motor, with the Vette body hung
on it......Now get to work....You have 3 months....LOL
