I might buy a 2004 chevy pickup 2500 hd  6.6 duramax diesel 4x4 . its a extended cab ls  , its loaded with everything even a gm nav system and heated leather seats. 78000 miles.
whats is the pros and cons.
the price is a once in a lifetime price. after the sale of my 2000 chevy fleetside I should only be in the hole about 6000.

to me there is no down side. diesel parts cost more for sure but if you are not rodding the crap out of it they go for a long time. i absolutely love my 2002 2500hd and i love my 8.1 gasser with 5 speed allison trans. the only thing that could make it better would be a duramax. more power and better mileage. if you are int he market for a newer truck i think that would be a good one for sure.

not sure nick. I was just told its a 04 with the slant headlights not the older bubble type. its a best friends cus personal truck. this guy has a lot of trucks and cars , he supplied the cars and trucks for the sopranos series. he owns a shop a dealership . he does custom work and this chevy has Cadillac escalade dash , nav system, heated leather power seats, 5 inch exhaust and a banks system. it roasted wheels.

I just bought a 2007, last of the Classic body style, I researched them quite a bit. The only negative I found with the 05 and earlier is that they had a little overheating problem when towing loads. The 04 had some injector problems, had a recall on them, the 04.5 and 05 were the ones with the overheating problems. The 06 and 07 (not 07.5) seemed to have the least issues and didn't have all the pollution control garbage on them yet. But if the buy is really good, they were all good trucks and no doubt the miles are really good on the one you're looking at. Hope it works out well for you.

my poor old 5.7 fleetside is at that point,, spend a g or more or move on. This deal couldn't come at a worse time, work is slow , money tight but the other day driving home I was saying to myself " this truck is starting to feel beat , I wish I had a deal to get a new truck" that night my best friend "the greek" walked into my garage and dropped this bomb shell of a deal. I didn't think I could pull it off so I told my boss,, in the hopes that he would replace the crappy ford 7.3 turbo diesel work truck. His first words were why did I want to replace the ford, my answer,, Well everyone hates the manual trans and it breaks down all the time, plus its a ford. My boss then asked me if i wished to have a chevy diesel over my 5.7. I said yes.. my boss then agreed to front me the money, sell my truck, pay him that money and he would take payments out of my pay. So this is where I stand now. The guy im buying the duramax from may want my chevy 5.7 as a trade in. we will haggle that trade in price but if I get dealer trade in cost , I should be in the low range and be able to pay it off very quick. also im putting all my atvs up for sale. gunna pay it quick. time for changes..
The shitter of this story is if it was may, june or july id have the difference after selling my truck. This winter ive been poor.work is slow, the weather has screwed us.ect ect.
either way this is a win for me , I know im going back offshore in about a month or two. I know we have no relief engineer for me, so that relates into a 90 day straight tour on that boat. money , money , money!!! money.
selling some of my atvs will add to the kiddy, I want a scrambler 1000. I will most likely hold onto the pred 600, the outlaw 525 and maybe the scram hybrid or outlaw mxr 450.  so the pred 560 and the banshee 421 got to go.

i would say go for it if it is doable if i had $5k more when i bought my truck i would have went with a duramax for $15k but my truck was $9,000 and i had $7k down so i paid it off in 3 weeks. i had to do it.

78000 miles for 9800 cough cough a I mean you didn't hear that.  well that is why I am in a daze right now, you know , the old saying about being to good to be true.  im going to check it out tomorrow.

Even if the older 04 duramax's had those issues im sure someone has a fix or a better mod,, right?? still better then a ford to boot.

Yeah, definitely a good deal. Go for it! And yeah, there are fixes for all the problems. The overheating was just under heavy load and depending who you talk to, the fix ranged from a different intake to making changes in fuel system.

its happening so quick and the need is now.... im a believer in fait . back in 2000 I got my fleetside on a fling. I just stopped at the dealer, my black chevy was the best package on the lot and a got a smoking deal on it because it was a custom order that was backed out on., gunna be sad to release the old single cab fleetside chevy. she has been good to me. alittle crappy tho... I cant wait to take my duramax from NJ to glamis CA. id never try that with the 5.7

crappy door handles , crappy seat, crappy fuel pumps, crappy intake manifold gaskets, crappy front brakes, crappy abs that I ended up disconnecting  , crappy cup holder that lets coffee spill into the vent, crappy dash that cracked just from hitting bumps and the crappy seat belt that shredded because of the crappy plastic cover. o- yeah and the old crappy hood latch that breaks and the hood release that takes another guy to bang on the hood  just so it will pop.

For that price, buy it.

04's had injector issues with the older motor.  04.5's had more HP and torque but had overheating issues when towing here and there.  The head design is much more maintenance friendly when replacing injectors as well.  The 8th digit on the VIN will tell you the story.  A 1 is 04, a 2 is 04.5.

only two scrapes on the whole truck, and the seats are 100%.The only odd thing about the whole truck is since it has the Cadillac escalade interior , the driver side has the switch for the adjusting foot brake . the truck doesn't have that add on , but I suppose it could be done ,but why?

All I know is the ford 7.3 or whatever it is , that we have at my job, breaks down everytime I drive it and is a SOB to start when cold. The sucker is always killing batteries, we have it on life support all the time.
It looks great and when driving it you can tell the ford is heavy and strong But like every ford truck or car, ford adds too many useless electrics and sensors that fail  which causes driver grief.

yeah that is the experience my family has had with fords. i will say the 7.3 ford was the best truck engine they ever built. i have seen many of them go tons of miles, but the rest of the trucks were far from problem free.

I have been very impressed with my 07 Duramax. Has 190K on it and is in perfect condition inside and out. The power is awesome. I've owned Powerstrokes and Cummins and this is by far the smoothest, quietest most powerful one I've had.

ive been offline for a few days, so I haven't reported back. all I can say is wow, what a deal I got. the next thing I have to reports is,, I am going to burn out alot of rear tires. this truck spins wheels very easily .  I left streaks making a left turn , where I had to get on it abit , I didn't know I was spinning the wheels so bad until I seen the tire smoke in the rear view. I mean I clouded out the road.

im going to take some picture of the truck cleaned up for you guys. I ment to get them up , but the weather has been gloomy, wet and ive been working late. too dark for photos.

I need tires 265 75 16. what brand and style should I get..? ive always liked bf Goodrich  and general grabbers.

Those bfgs all terrain are a great price and grab good so maybe you'll lose some of that wheel spin, I think my pops just paid 760 for his set that were 32x12.50x15s

Generals are nice but pricey imo
