Well, went to get the wheeler ready for riding season.Changed the oil and found a bunch of rubber strips shredded and like inch long seemed like a ruber seal or somthing in front screen and in the back magnet was bunch of metal shavings. the oil smelt like it had gas in it. Anybody know anything like this or? i have pictures but it says they're to big of files and i dont know how to get them on here. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks, Chris

Sure looks like someone used a lot of silicone somewhere. This can plug oil passages and cause real problems. Just a possibility. Gonna be hard to say with looking inside.

It does look like someone used a bit too much silicone but as long as you keep the screens cleaned and make sure to re-install them correctly, (I've seen dealerships screw the back one up... lol) it SHOULDN'T get into any oil passages.  Those screens being easily removable and cleanable is one of the nice things about the RFS engine.  I don't really see much cause for concern here unless it starts leaking oil or something.

Now the oil smelling like gas is a bit strange.  Did you have the bikes sitting for a long time with a float stuck and have a bunch of fuel drain into the engine?  That could break down the silicone that was on the inside of the cases, potentially making it break off in pieces like you see there.  So maybe the engine builder didn't really use too much silicone afterall?

Anyway, those are just some thoughts.

I agree with walt. if its leaking gas into the engine then that gas will break down silicone gaskets. that is why I use yamabond 6b . it can take gas without destroying the gasket compound. rtv does not do well with gas. nor does most gasket maker glues/rtvs/ or engine sealants. yamahabond 6 b seems to hold up the best against gas.
