My predator was running great and then it suddenly just died.. No cutting out no sputter no backfire just died completely. I towed it home and replaced the fuel pump and it started up and ran fine for about 5 minutes then it started cutting out and died. I towed it home once again and tried another fuel pump and it seemed to be fine I drove around the house a little with no problem. Took it to the dunes and on the first ride it started cutting out at half throttle. I cleaned the carb, replaced the fuel filter it starts up fine but dies once it is warmed up. The control switch on the handlebar seems to be bad so I have ordered a new one and have bypassed it for now. Could this be a CDI box issue?

it could be the black bag resetting breaker. they need to be replaced sometimes. they will work but when they get hot they will cut off until they cool down and then work again.

here it what it looks like.

here is what it should look like on the inside. usually when they are bad they will be dirty rusty and or corroded.

It may be an electrical problem, they sometimes get worst as they heat up.  If you don't have another cdi to try, try getting a baggy of ice and holding it on the cdi and see if it makes any difference.  If it takes allot longer for the problem to surface, it may be your box.

Do you know if I can just bypass the circuit breaker and put a fuse in its place? The bike currently starts up every time no problem but it dies once its warmed up or if you try to rev it at all.

yes you can bypass it or put in a fuse 20 amp. if it only died once warm that would likely be the breaker. if it started dying when revved after the carb cleaning i would guess the diaphram and rubber boot and or needle are out of place or not sealed in the carb. it sounds like 1 problem turned into 2 or it is the cdi getting worse.

I am pretty certain that is an electrical issue. I think I am going to try replacing the CDI box. They are expensive though. Anyone have any suggestion on the best way to obtain a stock CDI at a good price. I see some on ebay used but I am hesitant.  Has anyone tried out the procom performance CDI?

i would start by at least opening up that black bag fuse. looking at it is free. yes used cdis are either good or bad so used is a gamble. they are not cheap otherwise.

Just posting an update. Besides the new fuel pump i finally just ordered the stock Cdi ( which I found $100 cheaper at partzilla of all places) and my bike has never ran so good. After we would get back from rides people kept coming up to my bike to see what it was. So glad I finally got it fixed! Thanks everyone!!
